Hrimm - a journey in paint

When I was looking to acquire a Frost Giant for my army, they were all sold out. After contacting my newly made friend Maikel at CCGWinkel.nl, he advised me to get a DnD model from steamforged. And boy was I in for a treat:

After playing with him a few times, it was time to start working on him for my hobby goals of the Halpi campain as well as just because he is awesome.

His base is a little too big. It is a 100mm circle and it needs to be a 75mm square. This still needs to be fixed.

I wanted to keep in with the spirit of the original blue skin of the Mantic design. I also want it to match the dark blue uniforms of the rest of my army. So blue on blue it was.

I am far too noobish to try NMM, so I stuck to my trusty Vallejo metallics for all metal parts. Next up was wearing down the leather of this wild giant. Nobody has time to get them repainted pristine blue all the time right? This was my first attempt at highlighting not just with lighter colour, but shifting from blue to brown.

I has already done some fur on my clansmen and wanted to replicate their style. So I went for bone white with sepia wash to drape Hrimm in a well used sheepskin. After all the large stuff, i decided I needed something finicky so I did the huge shield Hrimm uses as a broche. I also gave him an icy stare!

While listening to Pink Floyds "Carefull with that axe EuHrimm" I decided on not metallic axe head. Obsidian!

And look at that sheepskin, so warm!

Detailing went from top to bottom, so his arms were next.

It was then time to spend 2+ hours on a legwarmer.

The detail in the sculpt is amazing!

Almost done.

The base I still need to do, as it needs to be cut down to size. I also will not just be using paint, but tufts, rocks and snow as well. I didn't have the tools at hand, so the "real final finish vFinal (very final) this is the final one.docx" will have to wait just a bit longer.

On to the glamour!
